ANGELES CITY – Punto Central Luzon recently forged a tie-up with Philstar.com, the official website of The Philippine Star, in a bid to reach more online news readers especially overseas Filipino workers. (OFWs).

In an interview, Editor Jun Pasaylo said that PhilStar.com believes that local newspapers like Punto Central Luzon plays a vital role in providing better, detailed and contextualized stories from the provinces.

“Aside from our readers here in the Philippines, we often read comments and suggestions from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) asking for local stories,” he said.

A local journalist and war correspondent in Mindanao, Pasaylo said that Philstar’s partnership with community newspapers with online editions also aims to help provide exposure to the latter and its Pwriters.

In the content sharing agreement, Philstar and Punto Central Luzon “believe that by entering into a partnership, they will be better equipped to reach, expand and maintain their respective audiences.”

Pasaylo also said that feature stories with corresponding photos from Punto will also be published on Philstar.

In the same agreement, Punto “shall allow Philstar to publish a maximum of 10 news articles with accompanying images from its website www.punto.com.ph per day.”

“Philstar shall properly acknowledge Punto as the source of such content. It shall include the title, date and author. In addition, it shall contain the logo of Punto Central Luzon.”

Punto’s first article on Philstar – Capture of rape suspect professor lauded – was published last March 30. To date, a total of 15 news articles, including local sports stories, have already been published.

“There are big stories happening in the provinces, in the regions, which we don’t hear or read on national dailies. This is one of the reasons why we forged this partnership,” said Pasaylo during his recent visit here.

Other Punto stories published on Philstar include: “Angeles mayor backs impeach move vs. SC justices”, “Parents of self-flagellating kids warned”, “Pampanga gov’t boosts quarry income”, and Fortification of  Angat Dam walls sought.”

Philstar is also the online news portal of Pilipino Star Ngayon, Freeman, Banat and People Asia while punto.com.ph is the online news portal of Punto, a regional newspaper in Central Luzon and a member of the Philippine Press Institute.
