SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — More than 400 transport cooperative leaders across the country, converged in this freeport to attend the two-day 1st National Convergence of Transport Cooperative Leaders held on June 27-28 at Travelers Hotel here.
“This convergence is driven by a sincere recognition of the need for unity, collaboration, and strategic alignment within the transport cooperative sector. Over the past two days, we have built a stronger network. This has further provided us with a unique opportunity to address the challenges and opportunities that our transport cooperatives faced and I am confident that the insights will make a way for more sustainable and progressive results,” said Assistant Secretary Myrla B. Paradillo, Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) board member and oversight head of the Public Utilities Cluster.
This convergence will also serve as platform to officially launch the Training Modules and Accounting System tailored specifically for the transport sector as initiated by Paradillo to promote sustainable practices and ensure the long-term viability of transport cooperatives after having assessed their needs drawn by the series of consultative meetings previously conducted across the country.
“The spirit of collaboration and unity that has been evident throughout this event is a testament to the strength and resilience of our cooperative movement as we return to our respective communities carrying the knowledge and inspiration we have learned here, “Paradillo added.
During the open forum, cooperative leaders submitted the petition to the Department of Interior and Local Government representatives for the immediate responses of the local government units in their respective localities to issue the transport route plans which is a major requirement in the release of their transport franchises and cooperative bank loans.
The event was also attended by CDA officials and other line agencies representatives of the government.
