ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has put into motion the full implementation of waste segregation at source in 56 public elementary and high schools starting May 6.

Lazatin aims to instill the importance of waste segregation in reducing the waste being dumped in sanitary landfills to all public school students.

“Nais po natin na maturuan ang ating mga kabataan ang kahalagaan ng waste segregation at source dahil para rin naman ito sa kinabukasan nila,” he said.

In preparation of the full implementation of waste segregation at source in all public schools, Lazatin instructed members of the general services office headed by Evangeline Malonzo to distribute trash bins in the 56 public schools in the city.

The mayor also ordered the personnel of city environment and natural resources office, and the environmental management system to regularly check the compliance of all public schools in waste segregation.

Last week, teams from the CENRO and EMS already finished the information, education, and communication campaign to all public schools in the city to inform them the proper ways to segregate their waste.

The CENRO team reminded them to observe proper segregation in their schools, specifically on dry and wet wastes.
