BFAR supports Bataan fisherfolk with livelihood aid for sustainable fishing

BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has provided livelihood aid to 1Bataan Pawikan Conservation Alliance Network (1PawiCAN) fisherfolk.

BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz emphasized the importance of conservation efforts in maintaining Central Luzon’s marine biodiversity.

“This livelihood assistance aims to promote sustainable fishing practices while bolstering the economic well-being of the local community,” he added.

The 1PawiCAN fisherfolk were awarded a total of 222 gill nets and 50 multifilament polyethylene nets.

Meanwhile, Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III expressed gratitude to BFAR for its continuous  support to fisherfolk in the province through various programs and initiatives.

“We continue to collaborate with various government agencies, offices, and the private sector to expand programs that will further benefit our fisherfolk,” he added.

The provision of livelihood assistance marks a significant step in the partnership between BFAR Region 3 and the 1PawiCAN.

By supplying essential tools for sustainable fishing, the initiative aims to strike a balance between economic activities and the preservation of marine ecosystems. (CLJD/RPQ-PIA 3)
