TARLAC CITY (PIA) — About 108 members of Malayang Magbubukid ng Hacienda Luisita (MALAYA) completed their agribusiness training.

It was initiated by the Central Luzon Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) in partnership with the provincial government of Tarlac, city government of Tarlac, and Rice Up Farmers Inc.

In his message, Rice Up Farmers Inc. Chief Executive Officer Elvin Laceda emphasized the benefits of the program in boosting the livelihood of farmers.

“It aims to equip our farmers to engage in business in order to increase their source of income and improve their livelihood,” Laceda said.

The training included modules on generating capital for business, choosing the right market, and marketing the agricultural products.

Meanwhile, MALAYA member and training attendee Renato Mendoza expressed his gratitude for the opportunity that seeks to provide them with sustainable livelihood.

“We thank the RTF-ELCAC and everyone who made this program possible. Rest assured that we will promote peace in our community,” Mendoza said.

Consequently, a total of 31 members of Alyansa ng Manggagawang Bukid sa Hacienda Luisita withdrew their support to communist terrorist groups.

Graduates and former rebels received food packs consisting of relief goods, five kilograms of rice, solar lights, and trash bins.

The government provides various aid under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program wherein rebel returnees and their families are given a wide array of benefits to help them start anew as they are reintegrated to mainstream society.

These include scholarships, training and employment. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
