ABUCAY, Bataan – This town’s 82-year-old mayor is running unopposed after no other candidate filed any certificate of candidacy (CoC) on the last day of filing Wednesday.
Incumbent Mayor Liberato “Pambato” Santiago filed his CoC at past 4 p.m., close to the deadline of the CoC filing.
Vice-mayoralty candidate Robin Tagle, 37, along with the eight-man sangguniang bayan slate joined Santiago.
Gov. Albert Garcia came to show his support.
Santiago’s group is running under the National Unity Party (NUP) which Garcia heads.
Santiago was undefeated mayor for three terms.
After completing the term, his wife Ana replaced him and likewise finished the three-term limit.
Pambato, a successful businessman in real estate and freight forwarding, is now on his second comeback term.
Tagle was former vice-mayor of Abucay and was about to run for mayor this May 2019 elections.
He, however, decided not to oppose Santiago.
Also running unopposed are Mayors Efren Pascual, Jr. of Orani, Francis Garcia of Balanga City and Carlos Pizarro, Jr. of Pilar.
