CABANATUAN CITY – Eight persons engaged in illegal quarrying were arrested in
an operation by the city environment and natural resources office in Barangay
Balite here Tuesday, a belated police report showed.
The suspects were identified as Jerry Santiago, 36; Salvador Labiano, 48; Ernesto
Velasco, Jr., 48, all of Gen. Tinio, Nueva Ecija; Nicky Ablaza, 38, of this city; Reynan
Sales, 36, of San Antonio town; Joselito Jaime, 52, of Aurora province; Fernando
Francisco, 37, of Pampanga; Vicente Benico, 41, and Angelino Marcos, 47, both of
Gen. Tinio.
Patrolman Narciso Gulan, Jr., investigator on case, said the suspects were
apprehended and turned over to the police by ENRO Ernesto Peña, Jr.
Charges of theft of minerals were leveled against the suspects or violations of
Republic Act 7942, police said.
“The suspects were already presented to Cabanatuan City duty inquest
prosecutor who conducted the inquest proceedings,” Gulan reported.
The suspects were detained at city police custodial facility, he said.
