A report reaching Camp Olivas heresaid that a regular patrol team of the Capas police were making its usual round when they received tip from a concerned citizen about a marijuana plantation in the mountainous area of Sitio Kabatuan in Barangay Bueno, some 30 kilometers away from Capas town center.
A prophylactic patrol is a mandatory quarterly patrolling by the police in full combat gear in hinterland areas of the towns “to deter criminality and terrorism”.
The report said the policemen found four fully grown marijuana shrubs as well as some marijuana seedlings in the remote farm, but noted that no less than 100 such shrubs had been already uprooted.
The police identified the farm owner as Buenaventura Alas Guerrero, 66.Two home-made shotguns were also confiscated from Guerrero’s hut.
Guerrero, however, denied maintaining the marijuana plantation and pointed to his brother-in-law he identified as Jose Lising as responsible. He admitted that some days previously, Lising had already harvested sacksful of marijuana.
Capas police chief Supt. Jesus Rebua noted that most of the marijuana plants had already been harvested and sold when the police team found the farm.
Rebua said it took them almost eight hours walking uphill before they reached Guerrero’s land.
Guerrero will be charged for violation of Section 16, RA 9165 for maintaining a farm of illegal drug precursor and violation RA 10591 for possession of illegal firearms. Both charges are non-bailable.
Meanwhile, the police are also hunting down Lising.
