BAGAC, Bataan- A seven-year-old girl drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming allegedly unattended at the Dan Lyn Beach Resort in Old Saysayin, Bagac town.

Insp. Marlon Cudal, Bagac police chief, identified the latest victim of drowning as Nicole Modesto y Acosta of Tondo, Manila. An attending physician declared the child dead on arrival at the Bagac Medicare Hospital.

Reports showed that at 1 p.m., the little girl was swimming with her father but for unknown reasons she was left unattended later and drowned at about an hour later.

An unidentified crew of a passenger banca spotted the floating body of the victim less than two meters away from the shoreline and brought her to shore where an on-duty lifeguard tried but failed to save her life by cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

She was the second victim of drowning in Bagac this May and the 7th since April 19 this year.

Bagac police said they have advised guests of the scores of gray sandy beaches in Bagac adjacent to the South China Sea to always take extra precautionary measures to ensure their safety and those of their children while enjoying swimming at the beaches, police information officer Insp. Tara Young said.

“We are conducting regular visits to the beach resorts to remind the management and the duty lifeguard to echo to the visitors safety measures while swimming and we have required resorts to have safety buoy/rope as warning to swimmers,” Cudal told Bataan police director Senior Supt. Manuel Gaerlan.
