FORT RAMON MAGSAYSAY, Palayan City – The Army 7th Infantry Division mourns the death of a soldier in an encounter with New People’s Army guerillas in Barangay Lamag, Quirino, Ilocos Sur on Friday.
In a statement, the command also expressed condolences to the family of Private Shame Reyes who was killed in a 40-minute firefight between the troops from 7ID Reconnaissance Company and the communist rebels.
“His gallantry to protect the people of Ilocos Sur will serve as an inspiration to all of us to crush the remaining NPA terrorists in our area of responsibility, and continue protecting the people from the influence of CPP-NPA-NDF terrorist organization,” the statements reads.
Reyes was the second soldier from the DRC killed in firefight with NPA this January.
Earlier this month, 2Lt. Zaldy Lapis, Jr., of the 72DRC was killed in an encounter between his troops and some 40 NPA rebels in Abra.
