SAN JOSE CITY- Seven people were arrested for cockfighting amid quarantine restrictions in Barangay Sibut here early morning Tuesday, police said.
The suspects were identified as Ricky Abella, 45; Orlando Cabalar, 45; George Mejica, 29; Nelson Lamson, 18; Arnold Lawagan, Alvin Barahama, Rolan Urbano, all of this city; and Bobby Solis, 31, of Cabanatuan City.
Nueva Ecija police director Col. Marvin Joe Saro said the suspects were caught in the act cockfighting by operatives from the city police station.
Ten live game fowls, P3,500 bet money, a gaffing holster and a derby box were seized in the operation, he said.
The suspects were charged for violating Presidential Decree 11602 or illegal gambling.
“These continuing hard works on anti-illegal gambling operations with the strong support of Gov. Aurelio M Umali will still be felt in the coming days,” Saro said.
Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, Central Luzon police chief, has said the Police Regional Office 3 is maximizing its effort to quash all illegal activities especially gambling and illegal numbers game in the region as mandated by the Philippine National Police and in line with the guidelines of Chief PNP Gen. Debold Sinas.
