6 nabbed for illegal fishing

    SUBIC, Zambales – Operatives of the Subic Maritime Police nabbed six fishermen on board three fishing boats illegally fishing within 4-7 kilometers of the municipal waters in Barangay Cawag here Friday evening.

    Reports reaching the offi ce of Senior Supt. Nepumoceno Magno M.Copus, Jr., chief of Regional Maritime Unit 3, identified the suspects as Crispin Delin Bajeta and Raymund Vico Valdez on board F/B Ocean Glory; Gamasan Diasanta and Francisco Trinidad on board F/B Leodery 102 and Rogelio Regalio Dimalibot and Hirondo Marciano on board F/B Rosalie 1.

    The reports said that at about 9 p.m. a team led by Senior Inspector Rey Cacaho was conducting seaborne patrol after receiving reports that illegal fi shing activities at night were rampant when they spotted the suspects at Sampaloc Point in Barangay Cawag illegally fi shing with the use of “active gears (buli-buli) using fi ne mesh nets.”

    The three fishing boats were impounded at Ocean View Beach Resort in Barangay Lower Kalaklan, while the confiscated assorted fishes were distributed to charitable institutions.

    All suspects are in custody of the PNP Maritime Unit facing charges for violation of RA 8550 of the Philippine Fisheries Code or using active gear (buli-buli).
