IBA, Zambales – More than 50 cyclists joined the 2nd Edition of the “Padyak Victory 2010” Johnny T. Hernandez Cup, a 67-kilometers race from Iba to Sta Cruz, Zambales, Wednesday morning.
Pocholo Galian, branch manager of the Olongapo-Zambales Victory Liner Bus Company, spearheaded the opening of the competition which he said is part of their yearly sports program. He added that it is also in preparation for the company’s 65th anniversary.
Most of the participants were bus drivers, conductors, mechanics, clerks, station masters, dispatchers and bus inspectors.
According to Angelo Gamboa, sports committee, the 1st Edition of the cycling competition was held last year that started from San Marcelino, Zambales up to Iba, Zambales with a distance of 56 kilometers.
“Ito ay taunang ginagawa upang mabigyan ng kaukulang exercise ang mga empleyado ng Victory, sa pamamagitan nito makaiwas sila bisyo at pagka atake sa puso lalo na ngayong panahon ng tag-araw”, said Gamboa.
Gamboa added that the management of Victory pledges P50,000 cash prize that will be divided to winning cyclist.
Bus driver Danilo Alumpi won the 1st place while shipping clerk Remegio Santiago bagged the 2nd place. Melchor Republo placed 3rd .
