Upcoming Netflix Original film Sweet & Sour is here to satisfy your rom-com needs. The story
of a contemporary couple experiencing highs and lows as their relationship faces opportunities and challenges, will express the sweet and sour aspects of love. Directed by Lee Kae-byeok of hit movies Luck-Key and Cheer Up, Mr. Lee, and starring Jang Ki-yong, Chae Soo-bin, and Jung Soo-jung, Sweet & Sour is definitely a recipe for success. Check out some reasons why you’ll want to keep the movie on your radar here.

Realistic Romance

Fairytale romances are fun, but they’re certainly not realistic nor are they very relatable. Director Lee Kae-byeok shared his intentions to portray a realistic romance that young people can connect to. He said, “I think young people nowadays are much busier than when we were young. They live such busy lives and must have hardships in relationships.” Sweet & Sour will portray a bittersweet romance that will make your heart flutter, but also show how love takes on a different flavor with time.

Young & Popular Actors

The young and popular actors making up the cast is another compelling reason to watch. Chae Soo-bin is no stranger to the romance genre having starred in series like Where Stars Land, I Am Not a Robot, and Strongest Deliveryman. Sweet & Sour marks Jang Ki-yong’s first romance film but he has previously impressed in works like Search WWW, The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos, and My Mister. Last but not least, Jung Soo-jung has shown different sides of herself through dramas like Prison Playbook, The Bride of Habaek, and Inheritors. With all of these popular titles under their belts, it’s no surprise how popular these actors are.

Relatable Characters

Since Sweet & Sour portrays a realistic story, the characters are also realistic and very relatable. Jang Hyeok (Jang Ki-yong) is a hard worker who gets an opportunity to work at a large company and tries his best to become a full-time employee there. Jung Da-eun (Chae Soo-bin) is a nurse who works many shifts with long hours. Han Bo-yeong (Jung Soo-jung) is in a similar situation as Jang Hyeok and finds herself getting closer to him the more they work together. Jung Soo-jung commented, “I found myself being able to relate to all three characters.” Chae Soo-bin added, “I hope people can be comforted as they find themselves relating to the characters and understanding their emotions.”

Unique Love Triangle

The film shows us an interesting love triangle where we see Jang Hyeok and Da-eun struggle
to adjust to and maintain their new long-distance relationship once Jang Hyeok has to commute to a new job. Da-eun’s irregular schedule as a nurse and Jang Hyeok’s long working hours makes it difficult for the couple to make time for each other. Jang Hyeok finds himself spending more time with Bo-yeong as they work on projects together, and they become closer to each other. Jung Soo-jung teased, “It’s like a triangle kimbap. You don’t know what’s inside until you peel everything.” You’ll have to watch the movie yourself for the whole story.

Romantic Chemistry

You can look forward to romantic chemistry between the two pairs. Jung Soo-jung explained, “I didn’t have any scenes with Chae Soo-bin, so we only saw each other twice.” Chae Soo-bin said, “Since we’re the same age, we felt sad that we couldn’t see each other more.” Despite this, Jang Ki-yong talked about having great chemistry with each actress. He said, “I felt like the chemistry between Jang Hyeok and Bo-yeong was very fun. Soo-jung mentioned she has a goofy side, and her energy was great. We had to do retakes because we laughed so much.” Chae Soo-bin joked about how she and Jang Ki-yong had more scenes of them fighting rather than lovey-dovey scenes, but there is a sweet scene at the beach to enjoy.

What are you looking forward to the most? Watch Sweet & Sour when it premieres on June 4 at 3PM, only on Netflix!
