ORANI, Bataan – A speeding car to bring a dying father to a hospital crashed on a small concrete house by the side of a road here at dawn of Tuesday, resulting in the death of four and the wounding of one, all occupants of the car and all relatives.
Dead on the spot were Rogelio Santiago, driver of the car; his father Aurelio Santiago, Jr. and brother in-law Raymund Tesaluna. His sister Juvy Torres died at a hospital in Orani.
Chief Inspector Leobaldom Bacon, Orani police chief, said the driver of the car miscalculated his turn on a curve that resulted to its crash on a house along the road.
The front portion of the car was a total wreck while portions of the concrete house in Barangay Tugatog, Orani collapsed. The victims were all from Tugatog.
Arlyn Dimapilis who resides near the concrete house that the car rammed into said they were awakened by a strong noise before 2 a.m. She said that the occupant of the house was lucky not to be hurt.
“Tatlo patay na nang ilabas sa kotse. Ang isa namatay sa ospital,” she said.
Albert Torres, the lone survivor, sustained injuries on the head and foot.
“Papunta kami ng Balanga City sa ospital para subuking ma-revive ang biyenan kong lalaki. Hindi ko alam ang nangyari dahil nagising ako sa emergency na ng ospital,” he said.
He was referring to Aurelio Santiago, Jr., his father-in-law. His wife, Juvy Torres, was among the dead.
“Nakatadhana na, dito pa lang wala na biyenan ko pero nagpumilit ang bayaw ko na dalhin sa ospital para ma-revive,” Torres said.
Torres’ brother in-law and driver of the car was Rogelio Santiago. “Hysterical na bayaw ko,” he said.
Maria Santiago said her husband Aurelio has been undergoing dialysis for already three years.
“Nagising ako na maitim na asawa ko. Gusto ng mga anak ko na ma-revive siya,” she said.
The grieving old woman said she lost a husband, a son, a daughter and a son-in-law.
