CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Four suspected carjack and akyat-bahay gang members were killed in a pre-dawn gun battle with law enforcers in Barangay Calulut here Thursday.
A police incident report said joint operatives of Task Force Limbas-Highway Patrol Group, the HPG intel division, the city and Pampanga police offices, and the 1st provincial mobile force company set up checkpoints at strategic areas in the city after receiving intel report that a carjack-robbery gang will strike,
The operatives were on a lookout for a red Mitsubishi Mirage earlier sighted in a surveillance operation in Quezon City proceeding to San Fernando Wednesday afternoon.
The subject car, sporting plate number UQG-517, was spotted by a TF-Limbas mobile team in the vicinity of Barangay Calulut, early into the next day.
The team tried to flag down the vehicle for a spot check, police said, “but the occupants inside opened fire and a brief running gun battle ensued until the suspects were finally cornered” by another mobile team of RHPU-3 positioned in the Calulut Bypass Road.
“Instead of surrendering, the suspects fired towards the troops which started an armed encounter and eventually resulted to the suspects neutralization,” police said.
Police investigations as to the identity of the suspects and the inventory of evidence recovered from the scene are still ongoing at posting time.
