3rd barangay chairman in Tarlac nabbed for drugs

ANGELES CITY- Three barangay chairmen in Tarlac province have been arrested in the last two months, following the arrest Last Saturday of outgoing barangay head of Lourdes in Tarlac City.

Tarlac City police intelligence chief Supt. Luis Ventura Jr. identified the third barangay chairman as Edizon Calayag Diaz, 41, who sought reelection but lost in the last May 14 polls.

His term ends next month. Diaz was arrested during a court-backed police search operations in his house in Lourdes.

Policemen found in his house a chocolate box containing suspected shabu, a plastic bag with suspected marijuana, and two plastic sachets with substances also believed to be shabu.

Only recently, barangay chairmen August Cruz of Murcia in Concepcion, and Sherwin Samson of San Sebastian in Tarlac City were separately arrested also for possession of illegal drugs. Both lost in the recent polls.

Ventura also noted that over a week ago, his men also arrested Rogel Yambao, Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief of Tarlac City after shabu was found in his possession.

He has been already fired from his post, even as criminal and administrative cases were filed against him.

Search of his house in San Roque, Tarlac City yielded nine sachets of shabu, 17 live bullets and a fragmentation grenade.

“We have our high value target list of government officials and businessmen who are involved in illegal drugs. More of these rogues will be arrested”, said Ventura.

Ventura also led in the recent arrest of four barangay kagawads in the town of Concepcion.
