37,899 teachers in CL ready for elections

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Education (DepEd) here said yesterday a total of 37,899 volunteer public school teachers in Central Luzon are now ready for duty for the May 9 elections.

    The regional DepEd office said it has “instituted activities to ensure the competency and readiness of its teaching and non-teaching personnel who will render election services as members of electoral boards for the national and local elections.”

    “In Region III, a total of 27,354 public school teachers will serve as members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) and Special Board of Election Inspectors (SBEIs), 2,785 DepEd supervisor officials, and 7,760 support staff,” the regional office said in a statement.

    It noted that “the teachers were among those who finished yesterday an election webbased seminar to address related issues and concerns, specifically the Supreme Court decision on the issuance of voting receipts and the recent amendments to the General Instructions.”

    “DepEd shall also establish Election Task Force (ETF) Operation Centers in the Central Office in Pasig City, in all regional offices and in all schools division offices starting 1 p.m. of May 8 up to 6 p.m. of May 10,” the statement also said.

    The regional DepEd office here also stressed that the “ETF will ensure that teachers shall be provided with adequate information, technical and legal assistance in the course of the performance of their duties as members of the BEIs, as well as school principals, supervisors, schools division superintendents and other employees of DepEd who will serve during the May 9 automated national and local elections.”

    “The DepEd ETF Operation Center shall also serve as DepEd’s institutional link to volunteer organizations, individuals, as well as partner agencies involved in the polls,” it added.
