CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Central Luzon is home to 372 century-old folk, at least in the count of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which allocated for them P100,000 each as “centenarian cash gift” from the national government.

Susan Hernandez of the DSWD’s social pension unit, said that of the total, 278 centenarians have already received their P100,000 gift.

The DSWD noted that Bulacan hosted the biggest number of 90 centenarians who have already received their cash gifts, followed by Nueva Ecija with 69, Pampanga with 49, Tarlac with 45, Zambales and Bataan with 17 each, and Aurora with eight.

The others are set to receive their gifts any time after they completed all required documents to qualify, particularly any valid proof of their date of birth.

Hernandez said social workers, in coordination of local government units, went to the homes of the qualified elderly to distribute the cash gift.

The DSWD said the cash gifts were distributed according to “Centenarians Act of 2016” which not only entitles them to P100,000 each but also a letter of felicitation from the President.

Hernandez said that on top of what such law provides, some local government units have also passed their own ordinances for more gifts and even awards to centenarians.

Centenarians who died after the centenarian law took effect would also be given the same amount of cash gift, as well as felicitations letter from the President.
