MORONG, Bataan — Combined elements from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Morong municipal police station rescued three crew members of a decommissioned Philippine Navy ship that got grounded in the shore here on Friday, July 14.

Col. Palmer Tria, Bataan police director commended the PCG and Morong MPS headed by police chief Capt. Ernesto Clemente II “for their swift action and bravery during the rescue operation despite the risk and danger due to the bad weather.”

The decommissioned BRP Lake Caliraya was washed ashore and grounded at the municipal waters of Barangay Nagbalayong, Morong.

Tria said that a report they received showed that the retired ship was being towed by a tugboat from Subic going to the Sangley Point naval base in Cavite when the rope connecting the vessels snapped due to the huge waves caused by the inclement weather.

As a result, the uncontrolled ship was washed ashore and stuck at the shallow portion, the police provincial director said.
