3 gamecock thieves killed in shootout

    ORION, Bataan- Police at dawn of Thursday engaged and killed in a shootout in Barangay Sto. Domingo here three suspected thieves of gamecocks.

    Senior Insp. Ronnie Fabia, Orion police chief, identifi ed the fatalities as Billsar Leoveras, Rex Balaguer and Danilo Cunanan, all 27 years old and from different barangays in Orion. Leoveras of Sta. Elena and Balaguer of Bagumbayan died on the spot while Cunanan was rushed to the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga but was declared dead on arrival.

    Recovered from the three were two .38 revolvers with spent shells and gamecocks placed in 15 “bayong” allegedly stolen from a gamecock farm in Barangay Sto. Domingo, the police chief said.

    Fabia said victims fired first with one bullet hitting a portion of the front of the police patrol vehicle, forcing chasing police offi cers to shoot back. “Kung napataas ang tama sa mobile, baka may tinamaang pulis,” Fabia said.

    He said the three apparently made use of the power blackout and rains as cover in robbing the gamecock farm. Orion was among the rest of the towns in Bataan that suffered blackout because of tropical storm Glenda.

    “Nakakalungkot lamang na ang pagnanakaw pala ng manok ay humahantong na sa pakikipagbarilan sa pulis,” Fabia said.
