GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija – A policeman and three civilians were killed while two other cops and two civilians were wounded in an ambush staged by alleged robbery hold up gang members along a provincial road in Barangat Tampac 1 here at around 6:46 p.m. Tuesday.
Chief Insp. Jacqueline Gahid, information head of the Nueva Ecija police provincial office, identified the fatalities as PO1 Ruben Badongen, Erick Fardo, and relatives Ronaldo and Alfonso Sambrano.
Wounded were PO3 Christopher Delfin, PO1 Mick Serrano, Raymundo Delfi n and Orlando Balmater.
The three died on the spot while Badongen expired while undergoing medical treatment in a local hospital at around 10:44 p.m., she said.
The policemen, all detailed at the regional police’s intelligence group, have just conducted a surveillance for possible police operation against the alleged illegal activities of a certain Jay-R del Rosario when they were attacked, Gahid said.
Noticeably, though, some fighting cocks were found inside the victims’ vehicle.
The suspects, one of them was identified as del Rosario, were on board a single motorcycle and two SUVs, investigation disclosed.
Forensic investigators recovered several pieces of spent shells from different kinds of guns.
