ABUCAY, Bataan — Three persons died while four others were seriously injured when the small car they were riding sideswiped an Isuzu truck and bumped into an incoming oil tanker along the Roman Highway here late Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Inspector Jennifer Cruz, Abucay police chief, said dead on arrival at the Bataan General Hospital (BGH) in Balanga City were couple Analin, 49 and Ronnie Benavidez, 52 and Analin’s sister Blanca Mendoza, 30.
In the Intensive Care Unit of BGH are Romeo Mendoza, 70, car driver and Analin’s brother; Karlyn Mendoza, 10, daughter of Blanca and Renz Balladurez, 2, godson of one of the car occupants.
Confined at BGH but already out of danger was Roxanne Benavidez, 21, daughter of Analin and Ronnie.
All are residents of Barangay Landing in Limay, Bataan and on their way to visit relatives in Orani town.
Cruz said the small car, a Mitsubishi Mirage moved from the outer lane to the fast lane causing it to hit the front portion of the Isuzu truck travelling in the same direction. The right headlight of the truck was damaged.
“Kotse mabilis ang takbo. Nag-overtake, dumikit sa kasabay na truck. Sa lakas ng impact, umikot ang kotse at bumangga sa tanker na hindi nakapagpreno kaya natumbok ang likuran ng kotse. Tatlo dead on arrival at apat ang sugatan,” the chief of police said.
Upon hitting the Isuzu truck, the car driver lost control of the steering wheel and swerved to the opposite lane hitting the incoming oil tanker.
The front bumper of the oil tanker was damaged but the small car was a total wreck.
Drivers of the oil tanker and the Isuzu truck were not hurt. They were brought to the Abucay police station for proper disposition.
