GERONA, Tarlac – A 42-year-old driver together with his two 15-year-old passengers died after the XLT-type passenger jeepney he was driving was sideswiped last December 4 by a 10-wheeler truck along the Barangay Amacalan stretch of McArthur Highway here.

Police said Benjamin Esguerra, of Barangay Tablang in Paniqui town, died on the spot while two of his six passengers—Patricia Anne Tiangsing and Frances Louise Yanguas, both second-year high school students of the College of the Holy Spirit in Tarlac City—died at the hospital.

Injured were Rio Sharianne Bautista, 15, of Barangay Burgos, Paniqui; Francis Vernon Bulosan, 15, of Nipaco, Paniqui; Juneah Joy Arciaga, 14, of Magallanes, Paniqui; and Ana Isabel Soriano, 16, of Carino, Paniqui. All are high school students of CHS.

Police said the 10-wheeler truck, carrying sugarcane stalks and driven by Henry Bala, 48, of Barangay Buenlag here, and the school transport service driven by Esguerra were travelling from opposite directions.

Police said the truck occupied a portion of the north-bound lane and hit the jeepney.

Police said the jeepney was on its way to Paniqui to take the students home.
