LIMAY, Bataan – Police Seaborne patrol and Bantay Dagat personnel arrested 28 boat crews and confiscated 10 coolers of assorted fish and two fishing boats for violation of the Fisheries Law during two days of operation here Sunday and Monday.
SPO4 Romeo Fastidio, Limay police investigator, said apprehended were 13 crews from FB BabyJames and 15 crews from FB JohnRose; all residents of Navotas, Metro Manila.
They were caught in the act while fishing with the use of fine mesh nets and active gear in violation of Republic Act 8550 or the Anti-Illegal Fishing Act.
Assorted fish in 10 coolers of more or less 20 kilos each will be distributed to indigents from selected Barangays in Limay, reported Chief Insp. Ricardo Santiago, Jr., Limay police chief, to Bataan police director Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao.
Boat Capt. Alberto Delokura, 45, a native of Cebu residing in Tanza, Navotas, said they were just passing by to fish outside of the maritime waters of Limay when they saw swarms of fish.
“Dahil sa hirap ng buhay ngayon nang makita namin ang kawan ng mga isda na nadaanan namin, inaryahan namin ang aming lambat,” he said.
Bantay Dagat said the boats are using two wide boards and fine mesh nets that destroy coral reefs and catch even small fishes.
