BALANGA CITY – A total of 23 girls aged 6 – 9 years walked the runway like models in their quest for the title of “Munting Balangueña 2023” in a pageant held at the Plaza Mayor here Monday night.
Representing their respective barangays, the young contestants sang in their production number as they entered the improvised but well-decorated stage backing the city hall.
The city plaza, sandwiched by three commercial buildings, the city hall and the Saint Joseph Cathedral, was filled with people who cheered loudly as their candidates were called and performed.
The contenders were stunning in their long white gowns and other attires. Most of them danced and sang in the talent competition.
The Q&A portion was a revelation of intelligence at so young an age.
“Magpapasalamat ako kay Papa Jesus dahil tinulungan niya akong manalo,” said one when asked what she will do if she bags the title.
Megan Auley Ongkingco of Barangay San Jose was declared the fairest of them all and got the title “Munting Balangueña 2023”.
The city government of Balanga headed by Mayor Francis Garcia with wife, Balanga City Tourism Council chairperson Raquel Garcia and Vice Mayor Vianca Gozun presented the pageant as part of the city feast on April 28.
