CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Twenty-one once inoperable service vehicles have been returned to their respective barangays in full-service condition through the personal initiatives of mayoralty aspirant Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab.
Pineda-Cayabyab said the 21 barangay patrols were among the vehicle units donated by the provincial government of Pampanga to barangay councils in 2014 to improve mobility in responding to various emergencies.
Due to budget limitations, many barangays could not afford the upkeep of their vehicles, which were left in dire conditions.
Aligned with her political platform of improved delivery of health services, Pineda-Cayabyab used her personal funds for the reconditioning of the 21 vehicles. Some of the vehicles only required electrical reconfiguration while others needed major repairs and overhaul, which the barangays cannot afford to cover.
Reconditioning works also included reupholstering and repainting to improve both functionality and appearance
Aside from general itineraries, the vehicles are used as mobile service for the barangay peace-keeping force, and often as ambulance for health emergencies.
The barangay chairmen and their councils hailed Pineda-Cayabyab’s initiative for its “immense contribution to the health and safety of their constituencies.” Punto News Team/PR
