ANGELES CITY – At least 22 village chiefs here led by Balibago Barangay Captain Rodelio “Tony” Mamac opposed the plan of the city government to build a P681-million sports complex through a loan.

In a Liga ng Mga Barangay Resolution sponsored by the Mamac and approved by the majority of the 33 village chiefs on Friday, they said “securing a huge loan of P681M, almost the annual budget of the city, to construct a city sports complex that is a seasonal infrastructure project, will not redound to the direct and lasting benefit of the poor, disadvantaged and marginalized citizenry.”

“Such seasonal infrastructure project will put the welfare of the people in danger and disadvantaged position. The city is already deeply indebted and resorting to another loan will tie up the government budget in monthly amortizations that will sacrifice basic delivery of public service,” said the resolution entitled “Resolution requesting the city mayor to prioritize public funds for pro-poor programs in lieu of the construction of a multi-million city sports complex.”

“The city is suffering from various socio-economic problems that need to be addressed comprehensively such as the lack of medicines and full-time doctors at the Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA), need for more school buildings, public cemetery, low cost housing for the homeless and so many others,” it added.

Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) President Robin Nepomuceno, brother of Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno, did not sign the resolution.

Those who signed the resolution were Barangay Captains John Sladky of Agapito Del Rosario, Carlito Ganzon of Anunas, Valentino Lagman of Claro M. Recto, Joen June Ferraris of Cutud, Marte Arceo of Lourdes Sur, Rufino Reyes of Lourdes Sur East, Ceferino Nunag of Mining, Reynaldo Pamintuan of Ninoy Aquino, Jeremias Alejandrino of Pandan, Jojo Dimapilis of Pulung Maragul, Robert Yeen of Salapungan, Carlos Villapana of Sapalibutad, Francisco Ang of San Jose, Marino Bituin of San Nicolas, Lou Banola of Sta. Teresita, Conrado Tungul of Sta. Trinidad, Aymer Alvarado of Sto. Cristo, Teofilo Casupanan of Sto. Domingo, Allan De Guzman of Sto. Rosario, Reynaldo Galang of Tabun and Edison Nacu of Malabanias.

Lagman said Pulungbulu Village Chief Gloria Tanhueco was not able to attend the meeting but expressed support to the resolution.
