GAPAN CITY – Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s Dir. Jose Taruc V, the son of famed broadcaster Joe Taruc of radio dzRH, enjoys the support of several former and incumbent local officials should he decide to run for governor of Nueva Ecija against his former ally, Gov. Aurelio Umali, and former 1st District Rep. Josefina Joson, in the May 2010 gubernatorial elections.

These officials include a lady mayor who strongly supports the administration of Umali, Taruc admitted.

Taruc, a resident of this vote-rich city, who ran for vice governor in tandem with Umali has expressed readiness to run for governor even as he seldom talked to Umali after the election that brought the latter to the Capitol.

Former Mayor Alex Belena of San Jose City is reportedly seen to be Taruc’s runningmate.

Umali, on the other hand, has started presenting a certain Gay Pediernos as his possible runningmate for vice governor while Joson is expected to keep her nephew, incumbent Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson, for the same post.

Taruc said that while there are only two prospective gubernatorial candidates in Nueva Ecija at the moment in the persons of Umali and Joson, presidential wannabes continue to scout for bets in the province. “Sen. Manny Villar, for instance, has a complete machinery down to barangay levels but has yet to identify a gubernatorial candidate,” he said.

“I’m ready. I’m always ready for anything,” said Taruc who led the distribution of 12 truckloads of relief goods from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office in 12 Nueva Ecija towns and cities affected by the recent typhoons through the Nueva Ecija Damdaming Bayan Foundation and dzRH Operation Tulong on Wednesday.

Umali, earlier expressed belief his former ally would not run for the post.

While Umali’s campaign slogan during the last elections called for a change, parties urging Taruc to run pines for a real one. “Nabigo ang mga tao sa isinisigaw na pagbabago noon, tunay na pagbabago ang kailangan ngayon,” a supporter said.
