CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A total of 20,000 Kapampangans from the marginalized sectors benefitted from the food assistance program of the Pineda family through the efforts of former Lubao mayor and current 2nd District Board Member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab.
Even as Cayabyab is set to cap the food assistance program with distribution sorties in Sasmuan and Porac next week, she made assurance of a second wave – for those who were not accommodated earlier – in the coming weeks.
All the four districts of Pampanga have been covered by the food program that served solo parents, persons with disabilities, pedicab drivers, scavengers, the coastal communities, and even laborers.
It was the express intent of the Pineda family, Vice Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda foremost, for the food aid program to help the provincial government cater to the basic needs of the most vulnerable sectors of society amid the ongoing pandemic.
The food packs distributed contained rice and assorted canned goods; those donated to community pantries included a variety of vegetables.
In what has been dubbed as “sorties in-aid of legislation,” the series of distributions also provided an opportunity for Cayabyab, along with the other board members who accompanied her, notably Rosve Henson, Ananias “Jun” Canlas, Jr. and Fritzie David-Dizon, to conduct impromptu consultations with community leaders and those in the marginalized sectors.
Inputs and feedbacks gathered from these consultations are taken to the provincial board for appropriate legislative action while those requiring executive interventions are referred to the Office of the Governor. — MPC-IG
