HERMOSA, Bataan – Two suspected top leaders of the Communist New People’s Army were killed during an encounter with operatives of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Battalion and the Philippine National Police Monday late afternoon in Bacong, a mountain village in Hermosa, Bataan.

Lt. Col. Juny Castro, 3rd IB commanding officer, said the fight started at 4:45 p.m. with the chase on 10 other NPA heavily armed men lasting for an hour.

First to fall was one known for his alias Ka Dodong who was wounded but was declared dead on arrival at the Bataan Peninsula Medical Center in Dinalupihan, Bataan.

Next to fall was Ka Estoy whose body lied sprawled along a dike on a ricefield. Ka Dodong carried an M-16 armalite rifle while Ka Estoy had with him a Ghalil rifle, Castro said.

Aside from the two high-powered firearms, also recovered were a handgrenade, a grenade launcher, various ammunitions, backpacks, subversive documents and a red flag with the hammer and sickle emblem of the CPP/NPA.

Other rebels were able to elude pursuing operatives. No one was hurt from the government troops, Col. Castro said.

Felicisimo Jacobe, alleged former NPA commander in Bataan-Zambales area, identified Ka Estoy of Bulacan as the NPA commanding officer in Bataan. Estoy reportedly took over Ka Luis who was recently assigned sub-region 2 commander of the CPP/NPA.

Jacobe, who claimed he surrendered on December 13, 2009 and now works with the 3rd IB, said Ka Dodong came from Gen. Santos City and was recruited to the underground movement in Porac, Pampanga sometime in 2004.

The surrendered rebel leader said Ka Dodong was NPA squad leader in Bataan and sometimes taking over as vice platoon leader.

He claimed Ka Dodong was husband of  one of the alleged “Morong 43” with the alias Nelia Olana.

Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, said they are still checking the real identity of the victims. He said the slain communist rebels were all under Ka Luis.
