CABANATUAN CITY – Two persons, one in the localdrug watchlist, were killed in a span of seven hours in separate police operations here Wednesday night.
Lt. Col. Arnel Dial, acting city police chief, identified the fatalities as Jayson Magno, resident of Purok 1, Barangay Imelda, and a still unidentified person who reportedly ignored an anti-criminality checkpoint.
Dial said Magno reportedly engaged anti-drug operatives in a gunfight during a buy–bust operation in Barangay Kap. Pepe this city at about 6:15 p.m.
Forensic investigators recovered a homemade .38 revolver, seven sachets of shabu, the P500 buy–bust money, and a single motorcycle without license plate.
“Itong success ng ating kapulisan is a product of our intensified anti-illegal drugs operations na hopefully ay mahuli natin lahat ng pushers sa lungsod,“ Dial said.
Police are still trying to establish the identity of the second fatality who allegedly ran away from a policecheckpoint along Calle Vicente, Barangay Sumacab here at around 1:15 a.m Thursday, March 5.
Investigation showed the suspect who was driving a tricycle was flagged down by elements of the Special Reaction Team led by Cpt. Diego Montes but sped off instead prompting lawmen to give chase.
“When cornered, he suddenly drew a .45, later foundwithout serial number, and fired at the checkpoint team but missed. The troops returned fire fatally hitting the suspect,” police reported.
Police recovered from the suspect the gun, and two sachets of shabu. Other pieces of evidence found on the scene were two fired cartridge cases of .45, one fired cartridge of caliber 5.56, and three fired cartridges cases of .9mm.
