LIMAY, Bataan- Police on Friday advised gold lovers to beware of sweet-tongued sellers of gold bars allegedly dug out of the fabled Yamashita treasures from the mountains of Bataan.
Two Aeta natives resisted arrest and hacked a police operative during an entrapment operation Friday morning in Limay, Bataan but left a fake gold bar that they offered to sell at P700,000.
PO3 Allan Lumaban of the Police Provincial Office Investigation Branch said one of the still unidentified Aeta natives hacked SPO3 Randy Talento when the police officer was about to arrest the suspects who received marked money of P1,000 bills as payment for the gold bar.
“Inundayan ng taga ang isang detective namin at mabuti na lamang at nasangga ito pero nasugatan pa rin ito sa kanang kamay,” Lumaban said, adding “nakipagbuno ang aming operatiba sa dalawang Aeta ngunit sa bandang huli ay nakatakas din ang mga suspek sa madawag na bahagi ng bundok.”
Lumaban said they planned the entrapment operation after junk shop owner Vicente Paguio of Barangay Tuyo, Balanga City reported of the offer of the Aetas to sell to him a gold bar. The natives showed a small piece of gold to the buyer who found out that it was pure gold and worth P544 after test.
Paguio said he was about to sell his car and a truck to raise the money but “parang nagduda ako kaya lumapit ako sa pulis.”
Members of the Police Intelligence Branch, the Provincial Public Safety Company and the Limay Police led by Supt. Allan Macapagal participated in the entrapment operation. Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, ordered hot pursuit operation against the unidentified Aetas.
“Maraming kumakalat na balita na may gold bars sa Bataan pero huwag po tayong basta-basta maniniwala at maging mapagsuri tayo,” Lumaban advised gold buyers. He asked other victims of the suspects, if there are any, to come forward to put a stop to the activity of the suspects.
