BAGAC, Bataan — Police on Monday afternoon reported the death from drowning of two bathers in the turbulent waters of the West Philippines Sea in separate incidents here and Morong town in Bataan.

Bataan police identified the victims as Manuelito Martin, 21, of Barangay Paraiso in Orani, Bataan and Michael Del Rosario, 23, of Meycauayan, Bulacan.

Combined elements from the Philippine Coast Guard, local police and barangay and some fisherfolk retrieved Sunday morning the bodies of Martin in the sea adjacent to Barangay Banawang, Bagac and Del Rosario in Morong on Monday afternoon.

Separate reports showed the two were carried away by strong current and drowned.

Inspector Albert Manabat, Bagac deputy police chief, said Martin visited a friend in Banawang and after taking lunch immediately went to the sea to bathe but was hit by strong waves.

Rheden Salceda, 25, of Hermosa, Bataan, tried but failed to rescue his friend who shouted for help while engulfed by the strong waves.

Del Rosario, on the other hand, was swimming with two companions off a beach in Morong when taken suddenly by big waves. The two companions were able to resist the waves and went safely back to the shore but victim was not fortunate.

“Pinapayuhan ko ang mga bisita na mag-ingat dahil malalaki at malalakas ang alon sa panahong ito para maiwasan ang ganyang mga aksidente,” Manabat said.

Bagac and neighboring town Morong have beautiful sandy beaches along the West Philippines Sea with calm water but waves becoming turbulent due to habagat.
