ORANI, Bataan — Two died while nine were injured when the passenger bus they were riding hit a concrete post along the Roman Superhighway in Barangay Doña here at dawn of Tuesday due to alleged slippery road caused by the rains.

Bataan police director Col. Romell Velasco said the fatalities were Eva Oril, 74, and Kevin Fontillas, 26, both from Mariveles, Bataan.

Velasco said those injured were brought to hospitals in Balanga City but police are still ascertaining the exact number of those wounded from 13 passengers of the bus, including the driver and conductor.

After checking in the hospital, police found out that nine were injured and undergoing treatment.

Velasco said that initial investigation showed that the Genesis bus was travelling along the Roman Superhighway bound for Manila at about 2:40 a.m.  when driver Jeffrey Santos allegedly lost control of the steering wheel due to slippery road brought about by the downpour.

As a result, Velasco said, the vehicle swerved to the right shoulder hitting a concrete electric post. The driver of the bus and some passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital, the report showed.

Investigation by the Orani police was still going on at press time.
