BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Two persons, including a newly-arrived overseas Filipino worker, died while four others were seriously injured when their car for still unknown reason swerved from its route to the left and crashed along the Roman superhighway here near midnight of Tuesday.

The OFW from Singapore Armando Calma, 41, owner/driver of the Honda Civic, and Tristan Joy Cruz 27, passenger in the front seat, were pronounced dead on arrival at the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga, said Bataan police director Senior Supt. Ricardo Zapata.

Seriously injured in different parts of the body and confined at the same hospital were Joan Jiongco, 29;  ConradRapira 37; Joey Cruz, 32 and Sheena Cruz 22.

They are all from Kitang I in Limay, Bataan.

The car driven by Calma was travelling on the right lane but swerved to the left side of the superhighway, hitting a small tree and crashed at the steel gate and concrete wall of the Elizabeth Supermart which is undergoing construction, said Supt. Melecio Buslig, Balanga City police chief.

“Nakaupo ako sa guard house nang biglang may narinig akong pagsabog kaya tumalon ako akala ko granada,” said security guard Ricardo de Vera. He said he saw the driver still alive and later became unconscious.

“Narinig ko sigaw ng mga babae na nagsasabing masakit,” the guard on duty said.

Sheena Cruz, one of those injured, said they left Limay at 11:00 p.m. and bound for Subic when the accident happened. “Wala na akong matandaan, nagising na lamang ako nasa ospsital na,” she said.
