2 cyclists dead, 4 injured in road mishap

    SAN MARCELINO, Zambales — Two cyclists set for the cycling competition Saturday at the Mango Festival in Iba town were killed while four others were critically injured when the tricycle they were riding in was sideswiped by a chicken delivery van along the Provincial Road in Barangay Consuelo Norte here.

    Senior Inspector Geoffrey Javier, head of the San Marcelino Police Station, identified the victims as Paolo Castillo y Dizon, 17, single, Rusi tricycle driver resident of Philseco, Subic; and Wilfren Arabe y Agustin, 22, single, driver of Honda TMX 155, and a resident of Barangay San Agustin, Castillejos.

    Still critical at the hospital were Jethro Castillo y Dizon, 21, resident of Philseco; Rabbi Abram Aziz Reyman y Trimor, 27, single, electrician, resident of No. 22 Begosa St., Barangay Del Pilar; Glenn Siego y Rabanos, 22, single, construction worker and a resident of Sitio San Isidro, Barangay San Pablo; and Ivy Bactad y Ortega, 23, single and a resident Purok 5 Barangay San Agustin all in Castillejos town.

    They sustained severe injuries and were immediately brought to San Marcelino District Hospital for medical treatment and later transferred to James L. Gordon Hospital in Olongapo City.

    Report said that about 4:20 a.m., a concerned citizen informed the police station via cell phone of a vehicular incident involving an Isuzu van (ALA 8407) carrying chicken and driven by Jerman Grabto y Baquiran, 27, married, a resident of Raymund St., Barangay Sapa, Meycauayan, Bulacan and the three tricycles.

    The truck driver voluntarily surrendered to the police and is now facing a case of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicides, multiple serious physical injuries and damage to properties.
