PEÑARANDA, Nueva Ecija – Two persons face a string of criminal charges over the death of four and the wounding of several others in a gun attack recently, police said Thursday.

Maj. Roderick Corpuz, municipal police chief, said four counts of murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and three counts for attempted murder were filed against suspects Romeo de Guzman and Marlon Salvador on Nov. 13 before the provincial prosecutor’s office in Cabanatuan City.

The cases stemmed from the shooting incident that resulted to the death of four people who were allegedly engaged in collecting dead hogs from a piggery in Barangay Callos here in the evening of Oct. 9.

The fatalities were identified as Melvin Gonsalez, 27; brothers Jay-ar, 37, and Reynaldo Quizon, 38, of Sitio Minalungao, Barangay Pias; and Joseph Valdivicio, 38, of Barangay Rio Chico, all of Gen. Tinio town.

A survivor said 11 of them were on their way home from picking dead pigs when two hooded men suddenly appeared and shot at them with handgun.

He (the survivor) sustained two gunshot wounds but managed to run away as their companions scampered for safety.

Corpuz said the duo were allegedly identified by the witnesses.

“May karapatan naman silang maghayag ng sarili nilang version,” Corpuz said of the suspects’ right to answer the charges.
