ANGELES CITY – Some 1,850 Persons Deprived of Liberty at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology here — 1,600 males and 250 females — received hygiene kits from the city government on March 12, 2024 in celebration of National Women’s Month.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. wants to ensure the health and welfare of the people inside the jail, while also promoting environment-friendly materials.
The kits, which include washable sanitary napkins, were turned over by the members of the Gender and Development Office, headed by Mina Cabiles to JSupt. Manolet Datan, JSInsp Cecilia Tamayo, JInsp. Julius Alcaraz, SJ04 Caroline Sanchez, JO2 Arthur Paoay, JO2 Maria Boucher, and JO1 Erickson Balao-as.
“Our city government under the leadership of Mayor Lazatin wants to promote proper hygiene and raise awareness on how communities can protect themselves,” Cabiles said.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel meanwhile said that aside from the washable sanitary napkins, the hygiene kits include toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, face towel, and bath soap.
“We are encouraging the use of washable sanitary napkins because they are environment-friendly and healthier to use,” Manuel shared.
“The use of reusable sanitary napkins is also part of our ongoing programs to protect and preserve the environment,” she added.
Also part of the ongoing activities for this year’s celebration of National Women’s Month are the free pap smear and breast examination for 1,650 indigent women in city, and distribution of buntis kits.
The said activities were discussed during a meeting presided by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, and Manuel with Cabiles, City Health Office Nurse Supervisor Evelinda Mariano, and Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer Irish Bonus-Llego.
To recall, this is not the first time that the city distributed hygiene kits with reusable sanitary napkins to female PDLs.
In 2023, 1,835 also received hygiene kits given by the city government in partnership with Beautederm Corporation prepared by Beautederm Ambassadors Manuel and Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and its President and Chief Executive Officer Rei Anicoche-Tan.
While last 2022, 1,871 units of hygiene kits were also distributed to the female PDLs.
