159 overstaying Chinese nationals nabbed for illegal gambling at Clark

    CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga- A total of 154 Chinese nationals were arrested over the weekend by agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in a rented space used for online gambling at the Dong Wang annex building in this freeport.

    Agents of the BI Intelligence Division and Angeles City cops , led by Police Senior Superintendent Sidney Villafl or, raided the rented unit based on a mission order from Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.

    BI officials here said the raid order was based on weeks of “intensive intelligence surveillance” of the third and fourth fl oors of the building used for online gambling operations.

    “The sustained eff ort to weed out illegal aliens and undocumented foreign nationals continues to gain ground with the help of our partners in law enforcement and the community,” Morente said in a statement.

    The arrested Chinese nationals are up for deportation as illegal aliens and for engaging in illegal online activities. The foreigners were detained at the BI offi ce here amid plans to deport them within this week.

    The foreigners entered the country as tourists via the Clark International Airport.
