SAMAL, Bataan: The Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) or Aglipayan Church started retracing the 14 Stations of the Cross, known also as Way of the Cross, in different barangays here Saturday as part of activities during the Lenten season.
IFI priest Fr. Celso Dilig of the Samal Parish of Saint Catherine of Siena led Aglipayan faithful in the prayer and blessing of 14 houses designated as “Istasyon ng Krus” in Barangay Sta. Lucia.
Each station has a carving of an image portraying I to XIV events in the Passion of Christ from his condemnation to death to his being laid in the tomb after dying on the cross. It is considered
as a simple way of reflection on the final moments of the life of Jesus.
Aglipayans in Samal hold the activity yearly. It was only stopped in 2020 and 2021 because of the coronavirus disease.
Here are the 14 Stations of the Cross: I – Jesus is condemned to death, II – he is made to bear his cross, III – he falls the first time, IV – he meets his mother, V – Simon of Cyrene made to bear his cross, VI – Veronica wipes Jesus’ face,
VII – he falls for the second time, VIII – Women of Jerusalem weep over Jesus, IX – he falls the third time, X – he is stripped of his garments, XI – he is nailed to the cross, XII – he dies on the cross, XIII – he is taken down from the cross and XIV – he is placed in the tomb. (30)
