MARIVELES, Bataan – The Bataan Maritime Group of the Philippine National Police reported the arrest of the boat skippers and crews of two fishing bancas reportedly caught in the act of illegal fishing within the municipal waters of Pilar, Bataan Friday.
Major Leoncio Alcantara, Jr., chief of Bataan PNP Maritime Group in Mariveles, said those apprehended were boat captains Antonio Revira, 54, of Fishing Boat Asrael Eion, and Ernesto Mayor, 54, of FB Kuya Caloy, both from Hagonoy, Bulacan.
The two face charges for violation of Section 95 (use of active gear or trawl) under RA 10654 (Act to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing), the police maritime provincial chief said.
Alcantara said that they were conducting patrol operation in the seawaters of Bataan when they chanced upon the two boats with seven crews each illegally fishing within the municipal waters in the Bay of Pilar.
Confiscated evidence were the two fishing boats and fishing paraphernalia like diesel, fishing nets, and coolers.
Also seized were 50 kilos of assorted fish estimated at P22,000.
