SAN NARCISO, Zambales — A 14-day “strategic lockdown” was imposed on the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) campus after 14 cadets tested positive for the coronavirus disease.
Last July 26, the PMMA started to accommodate 284 aspiring first year cadets for indoctrination period. They were placed under mandatory quarantine inside the academy and monitored by representatives of the barangay health emergency response team when two students were reported to be positive of Covid-19.
Last August 25, the RT-PCR tests of 337 cadets ielded 14 new Covid-19 positive cases. The local inter-agency task force initiated immediately contact tracing and disinfection of boarding house where the cadets stayed.
Both town and provincial IATFs strictly instituted new guidelines by putting identified critical zone of PMMA compound in 14–day lockdown from August 29 to September 12.
All on–going construction inside the institution has been ordered to stop during the lockdown.
The PMMA is disallowing all incoming midshipmen/women from transiting in any boarding house in San Narciso, Zambales and anywhere else during pandemic. All cadets shall continue to be confined in PMMA and not allowed to go on liberty at anytime during the pandemic.
All cadets are not allowed to receive any guests including members of their family.
