CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –  With Pres. Aquino around as guest, a total of 1,132 jobseekers were hired on-the-spot at a job and livelihood fair held Tuesday  in Camp Aquino, Tarlac City.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional information officer Jerry Borja said the newly hired accounted for 32 percent of the 3,475 applicants who registered for the fair attended by the President.

“Positions filled up included customer service representatives, sales clerks, waiters, production workers and factory workers,” Borja noted.

A total of 66 companies took part in the pre-Labor Day fair of which 41 were Philippine-based while 25 were foreign-based.

Among those hired were Analyn Castro, 20, who would soon be working as part of the production team of International Wiring Systems (IWS).

“I am glad that considering the number of applicants who came not only from  Tarlac but from other provinces such as Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Bataan, I was chosen, right here, I was hired on-the-spot” said Castro, a high school graduate.

DOLE regional director Raymundo Agravante stressed that “applying and successfully landing a job usually takes several days. It is strenuous for the applicants and especially for sensitive and selective employers who need competent and skilled individuals to fill-up their vacancies.”

“At DOLE job fairs, we bring them together, making the recruitment process easier for both parties,” he added.

Anchored on the theme “Manggagawang Pilipino: Handa sa Hamon ng Makabagong Panahon”, the event was co-sponsored by DOLE, Tarlac Provincial Public Employment Service Office, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
