ALIAGA, Nueva Ecija – A total of 105 people were arrested in a raid on a cockpit arena in Barangay Poblacion East II here about 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Police said the operation against cockfighting was hatched on Bumanlag Games and Amusement by operatives from the 2nd Maneuver Platoon of the 1st Provincial Mobile Field Company and the town police station headed by Maj. Marlon Serna.
Police recovered 25 fighting cocks, 206 gaffs, and a total of P27,599 bet money, investigators said.
“The recovered pieces of evidence were properly marked and inventoried in the presence of the arrested suspects,” the municipal police reported.
Police said the cockpit arena has been operating without necessary permits.
Charges for violations of Presidential Decree 449 (Illegal Cockfighting), PD 1602 (Illegal Gambling) and Republic Act 1133 (Surveillance and Response to Notifiable Diseases, Pandemics, and Health Events of Public Health Concern) were filed against the suspects.
