CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – At least 10,000 village officials and their security men will help in the renewed fight against all forms of criminality in Pam-panga, including peddling of illegal drugs.

Disclosing this to Punto Central Luzon on Monday, Gov. Lilia Pineda said the provincial government and the Pampanga Police Office (PPO) are working closely to prepare officials, including tanods in the province’s 505 barangays in effectively assisting the 1,045 cops led by provincial police director Senior Supt. Edgardo Tinio.

Pineda and the provincial board led by Vice Gov. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao gave brand-new tricycle units to all villages, allowing quick-response to crimes and emergency cases.

But Pineda stressed that “constant communication and cooperation” with village officials “is still key to solving and preventing crimes.”

She cited a case last year when Sta. Rita town policemen arrested a drug pusher in his newly-established shabu factory after his alleged illegal activities were tipped off by his neighbors.

“Cooperation of residents is still the best way to stop crimes,” said Pineda, who announced that village officials had been issued cell phone units each to have direct and quick access to police based in their respective areas.

Pineda is also closely working with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency  Director General Jose “Sonny” Gutierrez to help in the drastic reduction of illegal drugs in Pampanga.

She earlier gave a service vehicle to PDEA agents based in Clark Freeport, Pampanga.

Pineda welcomed Lyndon Aspacio, newly assigned regional director of the agency in Central Luzon.

Gutierrez introduced Asapacio to Pineda during the recent peace and order meeting at the Capitol. Among those in the meeting were Tinio and the cop chiefs in Pampanga’s towns and cities.

Gutierrez gave the updates on the illegal drugs trade and the importance of following procedures when arresting alleged drug users.
