CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A total of 1,000 families affected by floods in two barangays here have received relief goods from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Former Pampanga board member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab and the Nanay Partylist coordinated the relief efforts where 1,000 family food packs were distributed equally in Barangays Del Pilar and San Pedro Cutud.
Each pack contained rice, canned goods, coffee, and chocolate powder mix. Barangay chairmen Jerry Canlas of Del Pilar and Filipina Dela Cruz of San Pedro Cutud helped in the distribution.
Joining Pineda-Cayabyab in the distribution were Provincial Liga ng mga Barangay president Benjie Angeles and City Liga president Elmer Manguerra.
Canlas said the food packs would last the families at least two days.
In San Pedro Cutud, floodwaters reached up to waist-deep in many areas. “Only the main road is not flooded. The sitios are under water,” Dela Cruz said.
Twenty-eight families from the barangay are now sheltered at an evacuation center in Barangay Lara.
The floods were caused by heavy rains caused by the induced southwest monsoon or habagat. Roads in low-lying areas of Pampanga became impassable, and many homes were affected.
Pineda-Cayabyab assured residents that more help will come if needed. The DSWD and Nanay Partylist said they will continue to monitor the situation. Punto News Team/PR
