BALANGA CITY — The Provincial Government of Bataan on Thursday announced that one died from suspected pertussis out of 21 individuals who showed symptoms of the whooping cough.
Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd said that latest report from the provincial health office showed that based on laboratory test, only one patient was confirmed positive, three negative, 14 pending laboratory results and three who were not collected lab specimen.
On the disposition of cases, seven were discharged, 12 admitted, one outpatient, and one death.
With the rise in the number of suspected cases of pertussis in the province, the governor recommended the covering of the mouth and nose when coughing, frequent washing of hands, use of face mask and to stay away from high-risk individuals and proper monitoring of those confirmed or suspected with the disease.
“Bagamat ang pertussis ay nakahahawa lalo na sa mga bata, ito ay nagagamot at naiiwasan. Sabi nga po, ‘Prevention is better than cure,’ kaya’t pabakunahan na ang inyong mga anak at sundin ang mga hakbang sa paglaban dito,” Garcia advised the public.
