BALANGA City, Bataan – The Mathematics Trainors Guild (MTG) of the Philippines on Sunday started in Balanga its four-day in-house training for more than 600 students, mostly high school and some elementary pupils coming from various schools in the country.
First and second year high school students underwent training at the La Vista Inland Resort while third and fourth year high school students and about 50 Grades 5 and 6 pupils at the Crown Royale Hotel, both in Balanga City.
Thelma Cambas, MTG cluster coordinator in Victoria City, Negros Occidental, said more than 600 participants were chosen from 41 MTG centers in the country after undergoing 12 Saturdays of sessions and passing the qualified examinations.
“The MTG wants to choose great mathematicians to compete in various international competitions like in China, India, Bangkok, United States and other countries,” she said.
“This training is for high school students all over the country coming from Tuguegarao in Cagayan to General Santos City while the second batch will be composed of elementary pupils,” said MTG information officer Anthony Ang.
Some students interviewed came from Metro Manila, Legaspi City in Albay, Dagupan in Pangasinan, Binan in Laguna and Zamboanga City. To the question what they can say of the training, some answered “mahirap” or “nice”.
A male third year high school student from La Salle Greenhills said “OK lang ang training” while a female 3rd year high school student from Dagupan replied “quite hard pero kakayanin.”
The training lasts on Wednesday.
A 5th grader said “kaya”. The 5th and 6th graders were included in the 4-day training because of the conflict in their school graduation. The training for the elementary pupils will be held next week.
