A delicious giant native cake weighing 108 kilos is shared by 2,000 mall goers at SM City Tarlac on October 19 in celebration to Tarlac Food and Adventure BESTival.

SM Supermalls aims to unleash the “Best of North Luzon” by showcasing the best food and adventure of the region. This region-wide festivity is conducted in SM City Tarlac, SM City Olongapo Central and SM City Olongapo Downtown starting October 14-20, 2019.
In recognition to the true favorite pasalubong and delicacy for all sorts of occasions, SM City Tarlac partnered with Betty’s Special Native Cakes, popularly known as Betty’s, to make a delicious giant native cake. According to Mrs. Jean Junio, owner of Betty’s, they spent 8 hours in order to cook the said kakainin including the food preparation. Meanwhile, the Galley Academy of Experts, Inc., a famous culinary school in Tarlac, did the ube topping design for the image of SM logo. According to Chef King Paul Gabertan of Galley Academy of Experts, Inc., it took approximately 6 hours to properly arrange the ube toppings to form the SM Logo. Ube was used to create the SM logo, while kapit was used for the white background. There was a total of 16 people who helped hand-in-hand to achieve the giant native cake.

The event started with a cultural performance by SPA (Special Program in the Arts) Dance Troupe of Tarlac National High School where they eloquently performed folk dance subli and sayaw sa bangko.

One of the highlights of the event was the ceremonial toast which was led by Mr. Emerson Sicangco, Chairman of the City Tourism Council and was joined by Ms. Michelle Charlene Chua, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Tarlac; Ms. Cherry Lou Manarang, North 3 Group Marketing Manager; and Chef King Paul Gabertan of Galley Academy of Experts, Inc. The ceremonial toast signifies the success of such event which aims to help promote and uplift the tourism and culture of Tarlac.
